Fareground Inc., Beacon, NY

Fareground Inc. is a women-run food justice and anti-hunger nonprofit organization. Formed in 2012, Fareground helps to bridge the gaps that continue to exist in our communities by operating free marketplaces, community fridges, tiny food pantries (TFPs), and other programs to distribute fresh and prepared foods. By building and placing TFPs around Beacon, Newburgh, and Wappingers Falls (along with teaming up with several organizations and ongoing community support) non-perishable foods, toiletries and baby care items are accessible 24/7 for anyone to ‘Take What They Need and Leave What They Can’. The pantries are sustained through donations from a variety of generous local businesses and in-kind contributors. Whenever possible, Fareground offers local, organic foods by joining with area farms and organizations. Fareground is a first responder to challenges within our community.

At Fareground’s Free Marketplaces, they offer an enhanced mobile food pantry experience where they bring a range of pantry staples, refrigerated, and frozen foods including locally-grown items. Their weekly community-based distributions of healthy foods operate using a choice model so participants can select the foods that appeal to them and their families. Fareground brings this mobile pantry to housing and accessible community sites in Beacon, Newburgh, Wappingers, and Fishkill. This makes it possible for folks who have limited access to transportation able to access the food they provide.
