Founded in 2017, FeedHV set out with the mission of rescuing as much potential food waste as possible and redirecting it to feeding agencies in need. Between 2017 and 2020, FeedHV consistently rescued over 100,000 pounds of food annually. This success was driven by the generosity of local Hudson Valley donors and the dedication of FeedHV's incredible network of food volunteers, who ensured the food reached the feeding agencies and communities that needed it most.
However, when the pandemic hit, FeedHV saw a decline in its annual food rescues, with the total dropping to 78,461 pounds. By 2022, that number rose to 83,121 pounds, and in 2023, it increased to 91,765 pounds. These gains came during a period when feeding agencies were grappling with heightened challenges and an overwhelming surge in demand. As we slowly returned to normalcy post-pandemic, so did FeedHV's rescue numbers. As of September 21, 2024, FeedHV has already reached 101,129 pounds for this yeat, a testament not only to the program's continued success but also to the strength of the community that supports us.
Despite these positive numbers, feeding agencies continue to report a dramatic increase in families seeking food and services, a trend that has not slowed since the pandemic. While FeedHV's progress is commendable, the need remains greater than ever. We urge the community to continue supporting our mission, ensuring that we can meet the growing demand and make sure no one goes hungry.
